# Just Close The Damn Lid

Close your MacBook Pro and let your coding / agent / AI work run. You don’t need to baby it with a [half open laptop lid while roaming](https://www.businessinsider.com/coders-keep-laptops-open-in-public-ai-agent-2026-5).

You can run your Mac in sleepless mode. It’s fine. Just monitor battery life. Use an app like Amphetamine ([Mac App Store link](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/amphetamine/id937984704?mt=12)) to let Terminal run. Better yet, use Conductor ([App link](https://www.conductor.build/)) like I do for running worktrees and model agnostic agents side-by-side.

Okay, so what actually is sleepless (also known as clamshell) mode? It’s exactly what it says. When a display is turned off or disconnected (ahem, closing the lid on your MacBook Pro) sleeping is prevented. Lock screen and user logout may activate depending on your settings in System Preferences.

A word of caution. Your battery will drain and your Mac will hibernate or shut down on low power. Using an App like Amphetamine lets you fine-tune the parameters when your Mac’s battery is truly depleted or enable when certain apps are running or working. I like setting this per app running. I’m judicious about quitting apps when a task finishes and this frees me up from remembering if I need to end a sleepless session or not. Oh, and I like to never shut down my Mac so keeping a functioning battery is paramount.

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you to close your MacBook Pro’s lid and let it run freely without quitting, I give you this haiku:

Fluorescent lights hum —\
the Mac dreams behind dark glass\
while agents run code
